Well nobody called it on the rental.
It was a Hyundai i30 (about the size of a Ford Focus).
The guy picking us up from the bodyshop came in a Jeep Renegade, it was awful, ride was solid and jolty over small bumps, tacky Jeep logos everywhere (on the speaker surrounds, seat bases and the radio had ‘since 1941' on the top).
Got to Enterprise and four Americans were there. A staff member asked if the Jeep would do them. They said yes but as one of the guy’s filled out the paperwork, one of the women ran back inside shouting “it’s a stick, are you confortable driving stick”, the guy just said “I guess so”. Lol.
The group of four then tried getting all their luggage into the boot of the Jeep, which is a very small boot really.
Filled out the paperwork on ours and walked out to the car, a Hyundai i30 (about Focus size), the member of staff said “I don’t know if it’s much bigger than your’s, we gave you a free upgrade”, her face said it all when I said, “no, it’s much smaller”. Ouch.
It’s okay I guess. It’ll only get used to go to and from work tonight.
At least it’s another car for me to clean and hopefully return it in a better condition than we got it in. I’ve already removed a load of scratches from around the car. Wash tomorro and seal then the interior.
I kno it’s just a rental workhorse but I nearly cried when I saw the guy use a bucket of dirty water stiff brush, then go from panel to lower edge and then up, onto the wheel, then back up to the panel again.
It's a hard life they lead.

I’ve heard they’re pleasant little cars at least, one of my classmates has a blue one. Here in the States we call it the Elantra GT. I like the look of the newest ones but the pre-facelift Elantra GT’s had this awful curvy front grille.

That’s what my partner drives. It’s sold as the Elantra GT here. So far we’re very happy with it.

That Jeep was well put together and comfortable compared to the Wrangler.

Somewhat unrelated question – are more people/companies choosing non-Euroband plates after Brexit, or is the lack of them on the rental just a coincidence?

It’s not bad. It’s nothing to ring home about though. It took a second or two to realise it had a manual handbrake. Lol.

Unlike the other 27 E.U. Countries, the U.K. Doesn’t have to have them. If you were to drive outside the U.K. You are required to display a G.B. Badge/sticker/plate on the rear of the car. Here we can either have non, U.K., G.B., England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales or within reason (as long as it’s not offensive) anything you want.

I can only imagine the Wrangler then. Lol.

Not a fan of the new i30, but I really liked the previous version (we got the cw as the Elantra Touring)
It was simple, but it had really good build quality (compared to the Hyundai models we got in the US at the time)

It’s okay. It’s utilitarian I guess. But I do miss Piglet.

The interior on the Renegade is just so tacky though.

Driving though Canada I saw some guy towing a fourwheeler with one of those older Elantra Tourings.

That’s what I was thinking. Keep telling someone something is so and they’ll eventually believe it.

i30 is essentially our Hyundai Elantra and Kia Forte. The rear of your rental is pure Forte5, and headlights look the same as the Elantra’s (the design of which chevy used for the new cruze and volt).

I had to look up the Forte. We don’t get the Forte here. I guess the Kia Cee’d or Pro_Cee’d.

No, the rear is pure Elantra GT. Literally.
As is the interior, fenders, doors, lights... Basically everything except the grille.

It’s a coincidence. The British (or some of them) don’t want anything foreign and they perceive plates with the EU symbol on the left as being alien and something forced upon them by those faceless unelected bureaucrats in Brussels (as opposed to their own faceless unelected bureaucrats in London).

I work next to a Kia dealership, so I see a lot of them, hence my initial gravitation towards the Forte. I don’t think I even knew Hyundai had the EGT, since they had killed off the more wagon-like Elantra Touring.
